Along with the security measures\u00a0built into our products, there are additional settings that customers can apply in order to maximize security, such as:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211; Configuring a password to access the web interface Settings page, and<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211; Disabling any of the following features that you do not wish to use:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">&#8211; Room Alert web interface<br \/>&#8211; SNMP trap sending<br \/>&#8211; TFTP firmware updates<br \/>&#8211; Trace output<br \/>&#8211; Telnet menu *<br \/>&#8211; Discovery over port 30718 *<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>* Not available on some legacy models.<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>Set\u00a0a password on your Room Alert Monitor<\/h3>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">We recommend password-protecting your Room Alert Monitor settings. Please see this\u00a0Frequently Asked Question for instructions: <a href=\"https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/2438\/set-reset-password-room-alert-monitor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">How To Set (Or Reset) A Password On A Room Alert Monitor<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Disable unused features<strong><br \/><\/strong><\/h3>\n<div class=\"su-note\"  style=\"border-color:#bcc3cd;border-radius:5px;-moz-border-radius:5px;-webkit-border-radius:5px;\"><div class=\"su-note-inner su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\" style=\"background-color:#d6dde7;border-color:#ffffff;color:#305d8c;border-radius:5px;-moz-border-radius:5px;-webkit-border-radius:5px;\">These instructions apply to Room Alert &#8220;E&#8221; models only. You cannot access a Telnet menu on your Room Alert 32S, 12S, or 3S.<\/div><\/div>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">You can disable Room Alert Monitor features that you aren&#8217;t using through the unit&#8217;s Telnet Menu. Please follow the instructions below to do so.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>You must have Telnet enabled on your Windows system in order to complete the steps below. Telnet is disabled by default in Windows versions Vista and above. Please see our FAQ <a href=\"https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/191\/enable-telnet-windows-versions-vista\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">How To Enable Telnet In Windows (Versions Vista And Above)<\/a> for help.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">1. Open Windows Command Prompt, which you may find at the following path:<strong> Start<\/strong>\u2013&gt; <strong>All Programs<\/strong>\u2013&gt;<strong> Accessories<\/strong>\u2013&gt;<strong> Command Prompt<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">2. At the prompt enter the following command, as shown in the example below:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><strong>telnet &lt;IP address of the unit&gt; 9999<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Adv_Telnet1.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6102\" src=\"http:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Adv_Telnet1.png\" alt=\"Adv_Telnet1\" width=\"600\" height=\"76\" srcset=\"https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Adv_Telnet1.png 981w, https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Adv_Telnet1-300x38.png 300w, https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Adv_Telnet1-768x97.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">3. If you are prompted for your Room Alert Monitor password, enter it and then press the <strong>Enter<\/strong> key on your keyboard. Otherwise, simply press <strong>Enter<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Adv_Telnet2-1.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-8699\" src=\"http:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Adv_Telnet2-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"94\" srcset=\"https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Adv_Telnet2-1.png 981w, https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Adv_Telnet2-1-300x47.png 300w, https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Adv_Telnet2-1-768x120.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><em>You must press <strong>Enter<\/strong> within a few seconds or you\u2019ll get a \u2018Connection to host lost\u2019 message. If you see that message, press <strong>Enter<\/strong> to get the prompt back and re-enter the telnet command from Step 2.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">4. The Telnet menu will appear as shown below.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">5. At the <em>Your choice?<\/em> prompt, enter <strong>6<\/strong>, which corresponds to \u2018Advanced Settings.\u2019<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Adv_Telnet3-1.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-8700\" src=\"http:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Adv_Telnet3-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"315\" srcset=\"https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Adv_Telnet3-1.png 983w, https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Adv_Telnet3-1-300x157.png 300w, https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Adv_Telnet3-1-768x403.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">6. Depending on your model type and firmware version, the following prompts are included in advanced settings:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">&#8211;\u00a0Enabled Trace Output?<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px;\"><em>Enter <strong>N<\/strong>\u00a0if you wish to disable tracing on the unit.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">&#8211;\u00a0Disable Web Server?<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px;\"><em>Enter <strong>Y<\/strong> if you wish to disable the unit&#8217;s web interface.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">&#8211;\u00a0Disable SNMP?<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px;\"><em>Enter <strong>Y<\/strong> if you wish to disable the unit from sending\u00a0SNMP traps and responding to SNMP Queries.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">&#8211;\u00a0Disable TFTP Firmware Update?<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px;\"><em>Enter <strong>Y<\/strong> if you wish to disable the\u00a0option to perform firmware updated on the unit using TFTP commands. Note that this will need to be enabled again to perform future firmware updates.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">&#8211; Disable\u00a0Telnet Setup?<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px;\"><em>Enter <strong>Y<\/strong> if you wish to disable your Telnet menu. Note that the only way to reverse this setting is to reset the unit to defaults.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">&#8211;\u00a0Disable Port 30718?<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px;\"><em>Enter <strong>Y<\/strong> if you wish to disable discovery of the Room Alert on your network. Note that we\u00a0recommend first setting the Room Alert Monitor to a static IP address, so that you can easily find it. If the device is pushing sensor data to RoomAlert.com, you can find its IP address listed in your account as well.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Adv_Telnet4.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6105\" src=\"http:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Adv_Telnet4.png\" alt=\"Adv_Telnet4\" width=\"600\" height=\"315\" srcset=\"https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Adv_Telnet4.png 983w, https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Adv_Telnet4-300x157.png 300w, https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Adv_Telnet4-768x403.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">7. Disable any features you do not wish to use. You can also simply press<strong> Enter<\/strong> to bypass any prompts that you do not wish to change.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><div class=\"su-note\"  style=\"border-color:#e1da46;border-radius:5px;-moz-border-radius:5px;-webkit-border-radius:5px;\"><div class=\"su-note-inner su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\" style=\"background-color:#fbf460;border-color:#ffffff;color:#333333;border-radius:5px;-moz-border-radius:5px;-webkit-border-radius:5px;\"> If all services are disabled, this will essentially make the Room Alert Monitor inaccessible on the network. The only way to reverse this is to use the reset button to reset the unit to defaults. We recommend being careful to disable only those services or features not being used.<\/div><\/div>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">8. After you have responded to all of the advanced settings prompts,\u00a0the Telnet menu will reappear.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">9. At the <em>Your choice?<\/em> prompt, enter <strong>9<\/strong>, which corresponds to \u2018save and exit.\u2019<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Adv_Telnet5.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6106\" src=\"http:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Adv_Telnet5.png\" alt=\"Adv_Telnet5\" width=\"600\" height=\"315\" srcset=\"https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Adv_Telnet5.png 983w, https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Adv_Telnet5-300x157.png 300w, https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Adv_Telnet5-768x403.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">10.
