Before you attempt to configure your dial-out or GSM modem in Device ManageR, please download and install the Dial Out Plugin Bundle<\/em>\u00a0from your account at RoomAlert.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Ensure you connect your external modem to Device ManageR’s host system:<\/p>\n

– Dial-out notifications require a Hayes-compatible analog modem.<\/p>\n

– GSM notification require a GSM\/GPRS modem compatible with industry-standard GSM AT commands.<\/p>\n

Configuring Your Dial Out Modem<\/h3>\n

1. Open Device ManageR in your web browser. You may open it by entering ‘localhost:8080’ or ‘<IP address of host system>:8080’ in your browser’s address bar.<\/p>\n

2. Select Settings<\/strong> in the navigation bar to the left.<\/p>\n

3. In the Settings<\/em> menu, select External Modems<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

4. In the External Modems<\/em> page, locate the Dial Out Modem<\/em> section.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

–\u00a0In Phone System Prefix<\/em>, enter the\u00a0number required to access an outside\u00a0line. Many phone systems, for\u00a0example, require ‘9’ to make an outside call.<\/p>\n

–\u00a0If you are using TAP<\/strong>, enter a Test\u00a0Service #<\/em>. Otherwise, leave this field\u00a0blank.<\/p>\n

– In Test Phone\/ID #<\/em>, enter a phone\u00a0number to send a test message to\u00a0once you\u2019ve finished configuring your\u00a0modem.<\/p>\n

– If you are using TAP<\/strong>, and your TAP\u00a0service requires a password, enter a\u00a0Test Password<\/em>. Otherwise, leave this\u00a0field blank.<\/p>\n

–\u00a0In Test Initialization String<\/em>,\u00a0leave the default string\u00a0(&FQ0V1X4&D2S38=10). It\u00a0configures the modem so that Device\u00a0ManageR can use it.<\/p>\n

–\u00a0In COM Port<\/em>, select the port that\u00a0your modem is using on Device\u00a0ManageR\u2019s host system.<\/p>\n

– For direct dial, select the following in\u00a0Baud Rate<\/em>, Data Bits<\/em>, Stop Bits<\/em> and\u00a0Parity<\/em>:<\/p>\n

Baud Rate: \u00a0<\/em>2400
\nData Bits: \u00a0 \u00a0<\/em>7
\nStop Bits: \u00a0 \u00a0<\/em>1
\nParity: \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <\/em>Even<\/p>\n

If you are using TAP<\/strong>, check with\u00a0your service provider for the correct\u00a0settings.<\/em><\/p>\n

5. Select Save Settings<\/strong> to save your changes.<\/p>\n

6. Then send a test message to the number you entered in Test Phone.<\/em><\/p>\n

– Select\u00a0Test Voice Modem<\/strong> to\u00a0test playing alerts over the phone.<\/p>\n

– Select\u00a0Test Dial Out Modem<\/strong> to test text messaging through a TAP\u00a0service or dial tones through direct dial.<\/p>\n

Configuring Your GSM Modem<\/h3>\n

1. Open Device ManageR in your web browser. You may open it by entering ‘localhost:8080’ or ‘<IP address of host system>:8080’ in your browser’s address bar.<\/p>\n

2. Select Settings<\/strong> in the navigation bar to the left.<\/p>\n

3. In the Settings<\/em> menu, select External Modems<\/em>.<\/p>\n

–\u00a0In Service Center #<\/em>, enter your cellular service provider\u2019s service center number<\/p>\n

–\u00a0In Test Phone #<\/em>, enter a phone number to send a test message to once you\u2019ve\u00a0finished configuring your modem.<\/p>\n

–\u00a0In COM Port<\/em>, select the port that your modem is using on Device ManageR\u2019s host\u00a0system.<\/p>\n

– In\u00a0Baud Rate<\/em>, Data Bits<\/em>, Stop Bits<\/em> and\u00a0Parity<\/em>, select the following:<\/p>\n

Baud Rate: \u00a0<\/em>115200
\nData Bits: \u00a0 <\/em>\u00a08
\nStop Bits: \u00a0 \u00a0<\/em>1
\nParity: \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <\/em>None<\/p>\n

–\u00a0Leave GSM Advanced Settings<\/em> at the default. This section contains the script that\u00a0Device ManageR uses to send notifications.<\/p>\n

5. Select Save Settings<\/strong> to save your changes.<\/p>\n

6. Then select Test GSM Modem<\/strong> to send a test message to the number you entered in\u00a0Test Phone #<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Viewing the Modem Log<\/h3>\n

If you need to troubleshoot your modem’s configuration, you may find it useful to view the log. Select View Modem Log<\/strong> to download the .log file, which you may view in any text editor, such as Notepad.<\/p>\n
